I’m not saying you have to eat animals. I’m saying that our evolution has an animal history. Animal proteins have catapulted us into becoming the Apex Predator that we humans are.
- Essential Amino Acids: Animal proteins provide essential amino acids like tryptophan and tyrosine, which are precursors to neurotransmitters (e.g., serotonin, dopamine) crucial for mood regulation, cognition, and overall brain function.
- Cholesterol for Cell Membranes: Cholesterol is vital for maintaining the integrity and fluidity of brain cell membranes. It ensures proper signaling between neurons and is essential for forming synapses, the connections between brain cells.
- Myelin Sheath Formation: Cholesterol is a key component in the formation of the myelin sheath, a protective layer around nerve fibers that enhances the speed and efficiency of electrical signal transmission in the brain.
- Hormone Production: Cholesterol is a precursor to steroid hormones like cortisol and sex hormones, which influence brain function, mood, and stress responses.
- Brain Development: During development, both cholesterol and animal proteins are critical for brain growth and the formation of neural connections, impacting cognitive function and learning abilities.
The brain and the gut are who you are.
